If you missed my previous post, be sure
to read it here, before proceeding. By doing so, you will to appreciate this post
better.
Haa, people of blogsville, is if fair? Is this how life is? You people just set me up for failure. You want to become Alakobas of my blogsville career? I see you people like drama too much. When I said there are two clans, I meant proper clans, not cliques, as I suspect most of you are expecting. You all want to put me in trouble, ehn. But read on, the post is still interesting, even if it doesn't cause you to bring out your boxing gloves.
Just imagine a real life community that
has two major clans with a wide river separating them, same tribe, same goals,
but different kind of structures and houses. That’s how Nigerians that blog on
Wordpress and Blogger are on the internet.
So yes, there are two major clans in Nigerian
Blogsville. All others are negligible. The blogger clan and Wordpress clan, and
they hardly mix.
If you decide to leave your primary
family to join the other clan, they will beg you to stay, cajole you, try to
convince you. You might give in to their pleas, or decide that you are going, so
you leave them your house address in the clan you are migrating to, but the
truth is they will hardly come to visit you. And some of them will tell you "we
will miss you. Unfortunately, I don’t do wordpress, or I don’t do blogger."
In fact, loads of times, you have to go
back to your house in your former clan, and tell your former family that you
have something new for them in the new house. Some will come, some won’t.
After a while, you concede defeat and
either come back to your former family, or accept that you have lost their
affection and stick with your new family.
There are few, like Angels Beauty, Ms Tizzle,
etc that cut across both clans, they know how to paddle in that river that
separates the two clans, but ask them, it takes serious consistence. Having to
cross a river all the time is not beans.
For me, I did not visit Wordpress bloggers in the
past because they did not have the Google follow button on their blog gadget,
and I couldn’t figure out a way of following them on my blogger dashboard,
which is my method of keeping up to date with blogs I follow. Some people have
other methods. So I just blanked out Wordpress bloggers. But I later figured
out how to add them, so I now cross that river few times, but the truth is that
they hardly come to blogger, so I don’t even know most ones that exist. The
ones I follow are like Angels Beauty and Ms Tizzle, that try not to limit
themselves to any clan.
How do I know blogsville people like to
stay in their clan. Apart from the ‘I don’t do Wordpress or blogger’ comments I
have seen and dropped, I visited my friend’s wordpress blog when he was campaigning
for the Nigerian blog awards. He put up a list of blogs he felt should be
nominated in each category. He typed something like ‘For the blog of the year,
vote a.wordpress.com, b.wordpress.com, or c.wordpress.com, so he didn’t
campaign for any particular blog, as long as it was a, b, or c, he was fine.
They were all Wordpress blogs.
So I pinged him, and asked "how come I didn’t
see any blogspot blog on this long list of yours?" His response was ‘I hate
blogger, I can’t stand it, I don’t visit it.’ And here I was, thinking it was
only blogger people that disliked Wordpress people. That’s a classic example of bloggers who
will never cross that river for anyone.
So when choosing your clan in this
blogsville, choose well, and try to be loyal to one clan, not being from
blogger today, and tomorrow, you tell us to follow you to Wordpress. What if
you want to have your house in the two clans at the same time? Fine, but as for
me, it is just too much stress.
Did you notice the irony? Wordpress bloggers still call themselves bloggers, even though they do not use Blogger, lol. They should call themselves Word-pressers. Sorry, I just had to chip that in.
Did you notice the irony? Wordpress bloggers still call themselves bloggers, even though they do not use Blogger, lol. They should call themselves Word-pressers. Sorry, I just had to chip that in.
So this is the end of my ‘How I see Nigerian
blogsville’ rant series. I hope you enjoyed it
Disappointed! I was among those expecting an aproko post, and even though I didn't comment on the last post, I had grabbed popcorn n coke n even ice cream n candy and a middle to back seat in anticipation of the post
ReplyDeleteKai. I am sorry for the disappointment o. No be my fault na, I can't form gist where gist no dey, lol.
DeleteLOL! another disappointed fella!!! seriously was looking forward to major action. :)
DeleteDo you know how many bubbles you have burst with this post?? LOoooollll!! I can't stop laughing because people are going to come here and FLOG you for whetting their appetite with part 1... Seriously I can't stop laughing!!
ReplyDeleteBut really, I didn't know there were people who "don't do wordpress". They sound like the islanders in Lagos who say they "don't do bridges" if they are not headed to the airport.
Thanks for acknowledging me and Angel's Beauty *WOOP WOOP* You's a darling! Everybody visit us o and comment cos WE DO BRIDGES!! We found out that paddling accross the river was too hard so we joined money together, called Julius Berger and built a bridge. hehehe (please now laugh at my joke)
I don't envy you right now sweetie. LOL!! They will beat you. Hahahahaaa. Oya pele, sorry. I'm here if you need a hug.
Mmmmmwah!!
lmao your joke is funny jor. I had no idea you were that rich ke. Julius Berger ba? Hi5 my friend
Deleteahahahahahahaha...thank you very much Mstizzle for crossing the bridge to visit we bloggers :D
DeleteThanks even more for crossing the ocean.
DeleteLolling @this, and I do not mean the latest interpretation of lol.
Deletelol. why go through all that stress when you can just buy a private jet? #okbye
DeleteLmao @ Ivy's 'lol' and Lue's private jet but na true o. I need me a jet too
DeleteMsTizzle, my person. You know, I used to find it difficult to cross the bridge too but you make it so impossible to not check on your blog. But like Lue said, private jet makes plenty sense na. Lol (the original meaning too)
Delete*Now asking for donations to buy a private jet*
Delete@ mstizzle 3.05: I came back so late, such that you've gotten so many replies before I even had the time to reply you. I burst bubbles? Na u guys blow the bubble yourself o, no be me. Looking at the comments in the last post, I knew I was in for serious trouble. There are loads of people who don't do wordpress o - loads. I would have decked for the beating I was about to get, but I am too late, dem don already flog me tire. I am laffing at the joke
Delete@ Toinlicious 4.23: Me too o, I had no idea.
@ Unyime: Lol at the latest interpretation of Lol. Na wa for people sha
@ Luciano: I like the way you think. So we will be spending mad money on fuel, just because we want to visit blogs. *too much money*
@ Toinlicious 1.52: Go and work for your money, and buy private jet.
@ Feyi: Yea, doesn't she? The way she loves us bloggers ehn, you have no choice but to show the love back.
@ mstizzle 8.55: Will you get out? Please, go and work for your money. If you are not a pastor, you no get that right at allllllllll.
As in you just wet my amebo throat for nothing...I must say, I hardly visit wordpress blogs and funny there are loads of them around. It is just too much struggle to be typing in name and blog address when leaving comments on their blogs. I guess I am a blogger for life.
ReplyDeleteNo be me o. Its you that whet your thing yourself, lol. Yes, visiting them is hard. How will I put all those addresses in my head?
DeleteLOL this is funny but i see what you mean. because.. when i started blogging, i found it hard to use bloger and wordpress was just it for me. But then i found that most nigerians were on blogger and their blogs were sweeter.. so i had to blog on wordpress and then 'paddled' to blogger to hear sweet gist. lol like mstizzle said, thanks for the acknowledgement!
ReplyDeleteLOL I do it all. infact i have a blogger account.. i just dont remember what the password is
ahahahahhaa..thank you very much Angel for crossing over to visit us at blogger-land oo :D
DeleteNo be me o. Its you that whet your thing yourself, lol. Yes, visiting them is hard. How will I put all those addresses in my head?
DeleteI actually did not know there was an sort of 'angst' between both 'sides of the bridge' so to speak. I am sure I actually notice the difference until of course I am asked to type in name and blog address like Lara just said. Blog or Press, not sure its the platform that matters, its the content.....abi? Anyway, that is just me.
ReplyDeleteI need to inbox you dear as I might have some updates/feeback on your project. How is it going?
Me too, I did not know o. Until someone says bloggers should come over, and people would be reluctant. And when my friend made that statement, I knew for sure that it existed.
Delete*Now waiting for your email*
True,it's hard fro bloggers to visit wordpress.I use to try but then,it's really hard.Your post is spot on!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is o. you sometimes have to use your email to subscribe to them, to keep up to date.
Delete*removes seat, grabs the remaining pop corn from Jemima and walks off angrily*
ReplyDeleteHahaha... I had a similar reaction, except that I also asked, "is that all?" before I jejely folded my seat, hissed silently, and walked away.
DeleteAhahahahaahahahaha...i feel you Toin..no mind @tilola!...ahahahahhahahaahha
DeleteNo, now I use super glue to stick the chair on you. Continue to sit. *tongue out*
DeleteLol @Prism, i was really hoping for another round of juicy stuff o. I remember that it was around the rape one i found your blog and sugabelly's.
DeleteHahahaha Toin no, you ain't going nowhere :P
DeleteTo imagine i was dragging seat and waiting for the cinema to start. I was thinking of selling seat sef to latecomers. @Atilola, why now?
DeletePlease, do the proper post jare. infact, you have my permission to "rehabilitate" this post. lol
@ Toinlicious 4:09: Dem don reply you before I had the opportunity to come manage my cinema oo, lol. Why are you angry naa, is my movie no more interestin? *Now rolling on the floor, wailing*
Delete@ Prism: That is not fair o. I can't form story where there is no story naa. Please, come back. *Now wailing loudly*
@ Simply mee: And I was thinking you would be on my side
@ Eya: Yes o, she's going nowhere
@ Toinlicious 2:17: If you want juicy stuff, create juicy stuff worth blogging about, lol. I dint know about this rape stuff everyone keeps mentioning o. See how I have missed.
@ MsJB: Please, tell her. She belongs to ma cinema for life.
@ sykik: So are you saying my movie is not interesting enuf? I own this movie, and I can write it anyhow jo. You people were just looking for something where there is nothing.
*returns reluctantly* Oya stop wailing biko but i thought i was coming to watch Avengers and all i got is Finding Nemo *covers face*
Deleteyay, i am so late, and imagine no gist, no popcorn what kind of cimema is this???
Deletelovl @ finding Nemo.. wait until your kid watches it everyday you 'll pray he remains found..but Atilola fall my hand o, i was rushing back to read seroius gist... now this? i dont even have popcorn again...
Delete@ Toinlicious: You are just a nut case. See comparison o.
Delete@ Jemima: You are so so stale, you are even developing mould due to your degree of staleness, lol.
lol @alakobas...ahahahaa...i was just waiting for you sistah!:D
ReplyDeleteYeaah! you took me by surprise....what i had in mind was more of clique thing...you be really 'fight avoider'...ehehehehe.
Now, believe me when i say i didn't know such clans existed! That there is a difference btw the 2?! I simply follow blogs that catch my interest by copying the URL....like Angel...but i noticed that the blogs will just disappear from my blog roll, and i have to start again!Oh my! so there is a DIFFERENCE! Wow! thanks for sharing @tilola..like i always tell you, you are one intelligent babe! Hubby enjoys reading your write-up.
Yeah! what an irony! They hate blogspot but call themselves bloggers??????????......they should be called pressers then! :D
I don't really like the features in word press esp the commenting style....why the funny creatures instead of the person's picture and why must one be on FB or twitter? For instance, i don't get back comments from Angel blog in my gmail, instead it goes to my yahoo which i seldom read! Nor her posts...though i used my gmail address!..Now i understand better.
It is like a man married to 2 wives...so there is the usual, 'i -am- better- than- you and he -loves -me -more- than -you attitude! All for the sake of the man abi?
You know something? this cuts across a broader spectrum than i see.....if we can have 'clan' in the internet as per our writings, then why do we cry foul over tribalism in our country? WE ARE NOT ONE!.......writings that can be read by diverse of people is now kind of put under a 'class-status'.... for instance.....oh..nitty is a blogger...so her writings are not good enough to be read by a presser?.......wow! am still kind of shocked here.....kudos to Angel for the love she shows to we bloggers...thank you sister :D
Now, what is the solution?....can the 2 clans find a common ground?.....can this be done by software guru's?....or bloggers and pressers will continue to live like dog and cat until a 3rd wife comes in, then they will gang up against her?
Weldone @tilola, both posts were a good read. Have a nice week.
A third wife should appear quickly o. Let us see the image she is going to use. This image here is just hilarious. So the next one will be Blogger and wordpress in Aso ebi Boxing wife number 3.
DeleteLOL! mehn this is serious! lol... all na blog gere.. we just have to make concious efforts to visit our fellow beloved bloggers ;)
Delete#wordpressforlife
@ Simply mee: Yes o. I can't fight in real life, and definitely not on blogsville. So wordpress blogs disappear, kai, dat na wahala o. To think I just found a way out. Please, greet your husband for me, I like him too - for making you come back, lol.
DeleteYou have a point when relating this to life o. People just choose what they like, and that is it. I don't think it is because they don't like the quality of our write-ups, but they just don't like the platform.
Abeg, I doubt there will be common ground o. The peeps involved are competitors, so choose whose side you will be on. As for me, I choose blogger, the community is just too cool for me to run abandon my peeps.
@ Eya: Lol. Let the third wife come, she won't even last one month. These two wives have locked us down real good.
@ angelsbeauty: First go and tell that to your fellow 'word-pressers' Then we would try too.
OOOhhhhh!!! Disappointed. But still enjoyed the post thoroughly. Abi you no wan fight?
ReplyDeleteWhy should you be disappointed naa? I said clans o. Na una form clique for your head. Lol
DeleteI like your joke. That is actually the reason why I joined blogspot when I was doing my research about blogging. I wanted to be a blogger and I didn't know how joining word press would made me a blogger....Lol. Can you imagine my rationale, I was new to this game and just wanted the easy way out.
ReplyDeleteI have actually discovered word press blogs that I love, so I have figured out a way to cross over. I just need to find out, how to get my picture to show, instead of a funny image.
Lol. Blogger o, wordpress o, we are all bloggers, though they should find their name jo *just looking for trouble*
DeleteGood luck finding the solution to your picture issue. When you do, please, let us know.
Nice posts Lola. You succeeded in stirring the hornet's nest. I've been laughing at the comments in parts 1 and 2.
ReplyDeleteAnd believe me, that was not my intention o. I was just writing what I felt from the bottom of my heart. I didn't know all these would come out of it.
DeleteBlogger v wordpress? Totally oblivious till I read this post. I read blogs I find interesting, some more than others. I was struggling with keeping up to date with the blogs I liked till the light switch went on and I realised I could subscribe via email...Nice write up, though I don't entirely agree.
ReplyDeleteYea, its just a light thing o, not like a serious beef or so.
DeleteYou subscribe to your people's posts and read dem all on email? You try sha.
We disagree to agree.
Atilola see as you fall hand. Hugs Toin and all seat contenders. lol.
ReplyDeleteI get what you mean about the divide btw blogger blogs and wordpress blogs ...and yes wordpress bloggers (except dear Angel, Tizzle, Joxy, Lucid) tend to think they re all that :p. As for me and my house, its all about content joo. If you re good, you re good! Blogspot and Wordpress do not edit posts !
Ahn ahn naa, what were your expecting? Lol.
DeleteSo wordpressers think they are all that? Wow, never knew. Dem no get community as strong as ours joo.
Wordpress bloggers are wordpresser, blogsvillers are bloggers. ;)
ReplyDeletei visit a few wordpress blogs coz i have them bookmarked.
* wordpressers
DeleteThey press their words while we are the real bloggers abi?
DeleteNot trying to sound like a nerd, Wordpress off better Content Mananagement System (CMS) than Blogger BUT limited plug-ins, add-ons, & comes with 3gb. That was why free wordpress pages look...'Empty'. Blogger was owned by Google & that gives opportunity to add lots of plug-ins, making pages look 'full'.
ReplyDeleteBut, for premium service Wordpress does it better.
I don't care which bloggers use either because I subscribed to their RSS feed, link to their site only to comment.
So why would I them pay for wordpress, when blogger is doing it just fine for me? The goal for me is a blog, not a website naa.
DeleteWell,@ilola, you no fall my hand@all. Truly, leaving comments on wordpress can be depressing(pun intended)at times but I have discovered quite a few pressers that write very insightfully too. Pressers like ESCO, Temi of Musings of a Caramel Latte Addict and many others do write well and I visit them, though only in my inbox as I subscribe to receive by email so I do get to word press only that I do not cross the divide as I have Gmail to do that for me. Lol...
ReplyDeleteAll y'all blogger snubs. You still try sha. But they sure don't know you use a microscope to view their clan, as you don't go over there to drop the comments.
DeleteI tried going over to wordpress once....yh, didnt work out. Lol @ wordpressers! I do not think its very user friendly joor especially for those not too familiar with blogging!
ReplyDeleteYea, I have heard that blogger is more user-friendly. Let them stay there and keep pressing their words, lol.
DeleteBut you sha...........after all the wait for aproko.....not fair
ReplyDeletelol @wordpresser.........thats just funny
Wetin I do ooo. Na una decide say na aproko I wan do naa. I only spoke english. I said 'clans'
DeleteNa wa o! And to think that I was imagining Illuminati tinz as per the clique and clan mentions. Indeed, the divide has always existed but we've just never really paid much attention to it. Blogspot and Wordpress users just seem not to flow with each other as well as fellow blogspot users and fellow Wordpress users do.
ReplyDeleteI know a lot of Wordpress users. In fact you'll find a good number of them on Naija Stories. They're pretty talented and fun too but I think most of 'em are tight-assed (if you'll excuse my Spanish). Lol. I visit their blogs occasionally and have quite a number of readers from there too. The thing however is they just don't bond as well as those of us on Blogspot do. Besides, I agree with you, Atilola. Blogspot users shoul d be the true bloggers while Wordpress users should call themselves 'Pressers' or 'Wordpresssers'.
However, I agree both clans should find a common ground and I salute MsTizzle, Angel and others who were nice enough to get Julius Berger to construct a bridge to link both worlds. But let's face it, Blogspot remains miles ahead of Wordpress any day. If Blogspot is Victoria Island, Wordpress is Abule Egba! Lol
Illuminati kooo... Yes o, they two clans don't flow. If one doesn't notice at first, then you do later.
DeleteReally? You are the second person commenting that wordpress users feel like they are all that o, I really never knew. Yes, I agree that our own community is stronger on this side of the divide.
Abeg, no let dem beat you with this your analogy oo. So we are the tush ones abi? Very cool.
LOL...this analogy is so apt and so true. I never really thought of the fact that the term 'blogger' could be owned by those on blogspot. Now I'm glad I never moved. I actually tried wordpress once though and didn't like some things on there and came back to blogger. Over time I've been on 4 blogging platforms and blogger has outlasted them all...I had problems with the others -> Xanga, Motime and wordpress.
ReplyDeleteyeah...wordpressers is the word for them oh!
Thank God you did not move o, we would have viewed you as a betrayer, lol.
DeleteFour platforms??? You are the father of us all.
LOL Atilola does your brain ever get a break? Still laughing!
ReplyDeleteSee how you sat down and analyzed this one. But your thoughts are so apt.
Loool. We and our imaginations, abi? I tire oo
DeleteNot wat I expected funny enuf bt anyways, its kinda true
ReplyDeleteThanks jare, for not flogging me.
DeleteVery true, and then the comments got me laughing again. I later solved the divide by subscribing to wordpress blogs, and following blog links when in the mood for rounds. I only use my blogger reader a few times.
ReplyDeleteMe too, I have solved the problem, by using blogger reader, in my case
DeleteThe comments got me rolling. Y'all are crazy people (in a good way)
ReplyDeleteAbi o, see this people. I love this community
DeleteI soo agree. You should hear me gisting about y'all :D
DeleteLollitude! Do you know that even if there were no clans, you have created them already. Hehe...But wait o, 90% of the blogs I'm followign are on Blogger. hmm..
ReplyDeleteMe ke, create clan? No o. They exist real good. Even your blogroll confirms that, lol.
Delete*zooms in* #TeamWordpress FOR LIFE!!! *tears singlet and brandishes war paint*
ReplyDeleteOh, it looks like I'm a one man army... *jejely wears new cloth and proceeds to climb stage like a gentleman*
*knacks mic and clears throat* Hello there, my fellow bloggers. I speak for the wordpress side of our dearly beloved artform. I think it's sad that you guys cannot see the light. Your platform is clunky and difficult to use. Why do I have to have a blogger account to EASILY post a comment on here? Be doing eyetest for me everytime I want to comment. -____- And have you any idea how hard it was to read your blogposts on my curve2 browser? It was so frustrating that I gave up on it even after I stepped up to an android phone a while ago. You see, it's really pathetic that blogger doesn't have a sensible mobile web platform even at the end of 2012. Neanderthal!
Also, do you know why we don't SEEM to have a community as such on wordpress? Obviously not. Let me help your (for lack of a better word)... ignorance: "Wordpressers" are almost all on twitter as well. That's where we do all the bonding and fighting and camaraderie-ing. You see, we've learned how to work both platforms for optimum exposure and 'benefitability'. WIN-WIN!! So yes, we do bond and fight too, we just keep all that 'pettiness' away from our blogs where we can focus on the actual art of writing/blogging while we keep all our 'silliness' on twitter.
Oh, another thing, I subscribe to a few blogger sites directly through my email... and I receive the posts in my inbox 24hrs later! Like, wharraheck?! Where's the sense in being alerted about a post the day after it was published?! Do you bother with yesterday's newspaper when there's today's to read? Rabbish and nonsense. Mscheeeeeww!!
Abeg, I dey go paddle my kayak go back wordpress jarey. I for done subscribe to comments so that when you people reply me, I can receive it instantly in my inbox but... Oh look, blogger is not that advanced yet. Oh bugger.
ps For those of you so concerned about not having your pictures up on your wordpress comments, if you were any technologically advanced, you'd know that you could use your twitter, facebook or even blogger acct while commenting and your avatar from any of those accts would show up, with the link to that profile attached too.
pps @ilola, I'm incensed that you did not credit me in your post. We are now fighting. I demand an apology and atonement for your sins. 3-|
ppps I bear no grudge towards you blogger bloggers (see how rubbish that sounded?) and your backward ways, the vexed tone of this comment was purely for purposes of mirth. I do not take responsibility for any one of you who do not possess a real sense of humour.
*bows and exits stage left*
I am not going to reply you now. You will be getting a proper reply from blogger users soon
DeleteWho's this olatoxic dude again? *removes shirt in readiness for fight* I need reinforcement people :P
DeleteThis blogger reinforcement is not working o. We need more
DeleteI was also expecting an aproko post but I definitely agree. The wordpress people don't hang out with the blogger people but there are more people on Blogger than Wordpress.
ReplyDeleteFunny enuf, there are loads of peeps on wordpress too o, but we just don't know them that well.
DeleteI tried wordpress once I did not get it at all.. SO i let it go..
ReplyDeleteI am having trouble keeping up with my blogger account so too blogs are not for me..
p.s I know I am always MIA these days lol.. I cnt apologies anymore, because it so hard keeping up with my blog.. :D
Hope all is well still

DeleteGreat weblog here! Additionally your site so much up very fast!
ReplyDeleteWhat web host are you the usage of? Can I get your affiliate hyperlink in
your host? I want my site loaded up as fast as yours lol
Look into my website :: free iphone
Meh... I thought I was the only one noticing the difference between the Blogger and the Wordpress. Na true you yarn joor, beefing dey between bloggers of the two clans. I had a Wordpress blog I was so following some years ago. Despite my committed reading and commenting, the poor blog owner wouldn't just deem it good to peep at my blog at least, so I stopped following the blog altogether. I can't even remember the address of the blog now...
ReplyDeleteSeriously, there is enough beefing between both clans. I love this your series die!
Eeya, thanks for loving it o. So you agree with the post, ehn? Good!
DeleteOh this is just perfect!
ReplyDelete
