I want to burst some bloggers' bubbles

Hi people. I think I need to be whipped, cos I have been feel like being mischievous recently, which is really unlike me. But for now, I just feel like busting some people's bubbles. All you curious bloggers will thank me for this, cos as some people know, most times, I really cannot be bothered.

Source

1. You know that scripture in the bible which says we cannot hide anything from God? If you don't know, check Hebrews 4:13. That saying applies to your blog posts 100%. What I mean is once you type something in your blog, and hit that publish button, it is over! I repeat, it is over! It can never ever be undone. You can backdate it, update it, reschedule it, but it can never be deleted. This is because there are feeds attached to your blog, so even if you delete the post, it would have fed to who ever has subscribed to your blogs. When I see someone has put up a post, and has deleted it, I just laugh, get more curious, and go to my 'backyard' to read the deleted post. This is the reason why you have to be sure you want to let that thing out before hitting the publish button. I am writing this because I read something a feed from a blogger on my phone today, which I felt was pretty revealing, so I wanted to see the kinds of comment people would drop on her blog, only to see that she had deleted it post. But here it was, sitting on my phone, and also in the feeds of God-knows-how-many-people who are connected to her blog. I know you want to know how to find deleted posts, but be patient, I would get to that.

People, I know you always hear statements like "say whatever you like on your blog, it is your personal space, if people don't like it, they shouldn't come by, etc." I was even guilty of telling Simply Mee that recently. I retract my statement now. Contrary to whatever opinion you might have, your blog is not your diary! If it is something you would ashamed to show your mother, boss, spouse or future spouse, don't publish it on the internet. You shouldn't just write everything and anything, especially if you are not an anonymous blogger. This also reminds me about what Naijalines wrote about Freedom of Speech being a myth. I completely agree with her. Be careful what you put out there, it might come back to bite you in the butt.

I am begging you. Please, please, please. I know you might be young and carefree now, because you might be in your twenties or so, but please, have foresight. Foresight is the ability to envisage the future based on your current actions. All the vulgar words, curses, and all can act against you in future. Even if you are anonymous, some people can still know you. I am one blogger that has met quite a number of bloggers, not only in Nigeria, in person, including anonymous bloggers. I have them on my BB and we are friends, and trust me, I will be meeting more in future, so that anonymous thing is not absolute. Remember, once you hit the publish button, it can never be undone. You can sin against God, and God will forgive you and remember your sins no more, but blogger never forgives, it remembers your sins for life!

So to the people who are interested in sniffing out deleted posts, I will burst the bubble now. It is easy. Just go to your google reader, and that's where all posts, including the deleted ones sit, waiting innocently to soil the owners' names, should there be any need for it.

2. Onto less serious matters. I noticed some people for make the text colour of the number of their followers the same as the number of their background, so people won't know the number of their followers. I also noticed people who do this have very few followers, so I am guessing they don't want people to know this fact. First things first, there is nothing wrong with having few followers, take that from someone who had only four followers for over a year, because I had no idea what blogging really entailed. So if you have few followers and it is bothering you, instead of wasting your time hiding the fact, concentrate on getting followers by being blog friendly, and putting up quality posts.

If you want to follow someone, and you notice you cannot find the number of their followers, don't worry, I am about to burst their bubble. Highlight the area where the number of their followers is supposed to be, like you want to copy the text. Immediately you highlight, you will see the text appear in white, against the background.

Yes, so I have been mischievous again. But seriously, I hope you would look beyond my mischief and be careful about what you put out there, especially if you are not comfortable with people knowing such things about you. Remember, once its done, it can never be undone!

  1. LOL...on the first part I think I know the post you mean. And it is only for those who are following the blogger via blogger or google reader that can see the feeds. But yeah, on the internet, think before you publish. I also try never to write what I don't intend to publish, sometimes I want to hit save and mistakenly click publish. This happens sometimes when I'm scheduling posts.

    1. I recently discovered that people use different kind of feeds to subscribe to our blogs. An example is those peeps who get our posts in their email.

I have seen a deleted post of yours before, and I immediately deduced it was a scheduling mistake.

  2. I am one blogger who write what I feel because of the feel of reading past experiences moments later. That's why I attempt not to distort facts.

When I read the title on my RSS feed I was expecting something...EXPLOSIVE, but this feels like a ₦5 banger.

I have a post in my draft, imagine this, a blogger commented on a post I wrote about an affair I had with HIS/HER sister. It was hilarious because the Blogger was giving "church advice" about the sister.

Also, I had no idea I knew Atilola till I read one of her posts....I was like, this family sounds familiar, including the area. Then I zoomed in on your picture....I showed a friend, isn't this...

My point is, if you want to write anything, write to make yourself free and don't make anyone ...don't permit anyone to keep you in bondage with your words.
It is liberating once you speak your mind. I remember my post on Toyosi Akerele....classic!!!!!

    1. I would have been very surprised if you agreed with me, seeing the fact that you are one person that 'speaks the whole of your mind, without filtering.

You have said before that you know me, but I don't seem to know you, and that's fine by me.

If you read my posts, you would know I am someone who tries to steer clear from trouble as much as possible, so don't be expecting explosives from me next time. This blog doesn't thrive on controversies.

I don't know who Toyosi Akerele is, and I haven't read your posts.

  3. I don't think it matters as long as you are being honest. Speaking your mind is liberating as long as the truth comes out.
Fact is everyone reveals enough to know who they were...you could even read between the lines to see pass who they pretend to be.

    I. Mean, for example I've been reading your blog but realised late last year that I know you. If was a post you described your family, I had to tell my friend isn't this..

I have to admit I was disappointed with the content....there was nothing EXPLOSIVE, just ₦5 banger.
I write a lot and there was a time a blogger commented on a post about an affair I had with a chic, criticising the girl. Well, the babe was the sister. I know I would upload it one day. People should learn not to judge on posts....you might be judging your sister.

    1. And what you say matters, whether you are honest or not. But, I don't expect you especially to agree with me. Go and tell your boss that his wife is ugly in the name of being honest, even if the whole company seems to think so, and see what will happen.

    1. This post is not directed at a particular person o. Please, don't put me in wahala. I was just saying. Besides, how are you sure you follow the blogger?

  5. LOL!!! Atilola oooo!! Please first and foremost, how far now? Please who is the person and where is the post? Let me try to cajole you into sending me the dits. I've had a funny week and something tells me the post you are talking about would take all the stress away. Oya email me please :)

Meanwhile the part of blogger never forgives, it remembers your sins for life just sounds very spooky and why should people be embarrassed that they have few followers? I had a "eureka moment" after typing that...

Anyway, I bind this spirit of mischief abeg before you go and do the one that will affect me.

Yes o, blogger always remembers. Please, bind the spirit well. I am even tired of it.

  6. I absolutely agree! Your blog is NOT your diary. Just like facebook, twitter and everyother form of social media isn't. Whatever goes on the net is on the net no matter how we try to delete it. It's never really "deleted". That's why for the little time I was on facebook, I was shocked at some of the things ppl put.

    Thanks for sharing!

  9. Humph! Kasala don shele! Is this my I-no-like-wahala-@tilola?

So you retract your statement?..ok..o, I am magnanimous to accept, but biko,I would appreciate it more, if you say it in my comment box..you know, under your intial comment...thank you o! :D

I deleted some posts when I went on my self-exile which I regret and want them back, so thanks for the tip...goggle reader you say? *offtosearchfroit* Oh yes..and some comments also!*runningnow*

Gan-Gan-gan-.. Sherlock @tilola the detective!...As for the followers issue, I disagree with you on that, because some people don't really care. They write for the pleasure of it. Some don't have the follow-button in their blogs. Mind you, some bloggers buy followers! Just as celebrites do to show they are well loved and popular and for commercial purpose.

Now, I love this side of you!.....so would you whisper the name of the blogger into my mail-box huh?

That reminds me, a friend on Fb sent me a beautiful pic of a gal showing off her panties and said she seduced her father to sleep with her. Now, she is feeling remorseful and asking for advise. The questions that came to my mind was: Is she the gal or random pics posted by people? If yes, why did she put her pic for the whole world to see? Didn't she know it would be downloaded? And can hunt her all the days of her life? And can be used against her in future? So coming to read this your post now is just #gbam#

You are giving me work o. You have read my retraction, and that's what matters. Yes, you can find deleted posts in your feeds.

As for the followers, I know many peeps don't care, and my 2nd point has nothing to do with them. Bloggers buy followers? Interesting, I never knew.

Just ducked in to say hello.

Some things cannot be undone that's life. You live, if you smart you learn and you keep it moving.

Number of followers matter little, its about the quality not the quantity, many of those followers seldom come back to visit, comment or participate in your blog activities. It is only few that loyally comes through and touch base.

    Have a blessed day

But I think I have taken down a post before; not because I was all of a sudden worried about the content but because I needed to add something and then I wasn't 'feeling it' anymore.

  27. Lol, Lola. I've been laughing so hard. You are so right. There is a post I wrote on being candidly cruel. There is no point bludgeoning someone with a cudgel on the head in the name of being blunt. Maturity will help one to know when to talk, and when not to. When you see people write carelessly, and talk carelessly, that is a neon light which spells, I-M-M-A-T-U-R-I-T-Y!!! Being young is not an excuse for being foolish. The Bible says that you should not let anyone despise you because of your youth. Once something has been published on line, that is it. It is sage advise to look before you leap.

I also laughed at the bubble you burst about hiding one's blog followers. Do people actually do that? Even if I have one blog follower, I'd proudly display 'cos you can't win them all o, hahahahahahahahaha. At the end of the day, purpose speaks. You cannot win everywhere. It's good to focus on the reason one came to blogville and avoid unnecessary and unhealthy competition. One's competition is with one's self, not others. The success of others should spur one on to be one's best; not feel inferior, or jealous.
I loved your post and it made me laugh so hard. Well done.
