So, what is the point?

Ok, so I decided to go to church on this particular Monday evening’s Singles Fellowship (the one where I met The Yuppy Sugar Daddy near), if you want to find out more about The Yuppy Sugar Daddy, click here. I sometimes find Singles Fellowship amusing because different people come for different reasons. Some people come to hear how to improve their relationships, some just came to learn. Some came to look for wives while many more came to look for husbands.

When I got there, they happened to be having prayer meeting because they had been fasting (I use ‘they’ because it is not the church I work with and attend on Sundays but I am a regular member). We were told to pray for the fear of God because one of the major problems Christians were having is that we don't fear God anymore and I was really convicted of this. Niways, a little while later, I was in the ladies washing my hands. Some lady comes in talking on the phone. She was telling the person on the other end that she was in church. She then said she will see the person soon since the service will end by 8.00pm.

I assumed she didn’t know that we were closing 8.30, I wanted to correct her so that she will not unknowingly stand someone up but decided to keep my mouth shut. She ended her call and as she was walking out, she turned up her nose at the phone (you know, the sign that says 'ode, I just deceived you’), I just stood there dumbfounded. I was just wondering, ‘Eeeh eehh, even right in church, she was lying’. She had just prayed about the fear of God. I just wondered... So, what is the point of the whole ‘church thing’?

  1. like a lady told me this past Sunday, "the church is a hospital".
I was in the church bookstore buying a devotional book and she told me the the biggest thing that get stolen is (get this) BIBLES...come on now, just ask for one.

  2. Pardon me for laughing...but I had to lol at your reaction which i find amusing. Worse things happen in church. It is one thing to pray for the fear of God. It is another thing to be convicted about what one is praying about.

The church is full of all kinds of people, alot are still growing in their walk with God. 3 years ago I may have reacted the same way she did (maybe because I was having a swell time in church and did not know how best to ward off a pest) without understanding what I was doing. But thank God that we learn everyday and hopefully as she spends more time in the presence of God, some of the habits she is used to will be replaced with godly characteristics.

Hope you had a swell time at the Singles fellowship.

The whole 'church' thing is tedious.
Christainity should begin within each of us.......

  5. What ChizzyD said. Church is indeed like a hospital, people are at various stages of spiritual healing. Unlike in the physical, no case is terminal, we are all works in progress.

  6. What's the point? You gotta go ask Pastor Chris Oyakhilome the point of his "ode" miracle in South Africa. Deceit always has wing of delight among people. LMAO

  7. I'm wit Joxy on this...just goes to say not all of us that come to church are 100% and I guess that's the actual purpose of the church

  8. Thanks everyone for your comments. My eyes are opening more and more. I always knew all kinds of people are in church but what surprised me is the prayer point we just took and that I believe that people that will make the effort to go to church on a Monday are more likely to be committed. Obviously, I was wrong.

  10. LOL!! that nose thing is called *yimu*---lol thats funny but the truth of the matter is dat it is not everyone that would be convicted by a particular message/day/prayer etc. Sad but it is true.

  11. Like Chizzy D said, it is sick people who have use of the hospital, same with church. Remember Jesus came for the sinners. The prayer is that at the end of the day, we get convicted and become saved.

  12. ...well what can I say, some people come to church for some very brazenly interesting reasons...and dem no dey fia God again. Signs of the end time?
But AuntyLola, I have a question for you; you rightly stated & described what many people come to church/fellowship for. I couldn't help noticing your use of "they" et al, just curious, wetin you come for?
